K.R. Sethuraman, a celebrated meducal educationist. is an alumnus of JIPMER of the 1966 intake, the first batch selected through a national entrance examination. Following his MD in Medicine at JIPMER he pursued Cardiology at the Chitra Institute at Thiruvananthapuram. He joined JIPMER faculty as a Lecturer in Medicine in May 1981 and worked for nearly 25 years. He was inducted as a resource person to NTTC in 1986 and later was made its Project-Officer from 1996-2006. He successfully completed PG diploma in Higher Education of IGNOU in 1997.
He took voluntary retirement from JIPMER in 2006 to join AIMST University in Malaysia as the Dean of Medicine for the next 7 years. During this period, he supervised the creation of a state of the art Clinical Skills Centre and guided research work on the learning styles among Malaysian students and on SOLO taxonomy which resulted in much cited publications.
In 2013, he returned to India to be the Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth at Pondicherry. During his tenure of 5 years, the deemed University was awarded A-grade by NAAC. In 2018, he returned to AIMST University as the Dean of Medical faculty where he worked till his full retirement from deanship.
Prof Sethuraman has been nominated as the second Professor Emeritus of AIMST University. Currently, he is also the Endowed Chair in Health Professions Education in Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth and an adjunct Professor of Medical Education for AVMC, Puducherry.
