Cachar cancer hospital & research center, Assam
Dr Ravi Kannan R, an Indian Surgical oncologist and former Head of the Department of surgical oncology at Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai, is presently based at Assam, India, as the Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (CCHRC), a non-profit hospital that treats cancer patients.
Kannan left his practice in Chennai and moved to Assam with his family in 2007 to provide basic healthcare facilities to the people of Barak Valley. For his selfless service to the society he has been awarded the Mahaveer Award of Medicine in 2013.
Recognizing his service to the people of Assam, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award in 2020.
Door Darshan news had described him as the “Medical Messiah for Cancer Patients in Remote Barak Valley”.
Throughout the years, his drive to provide the best medical treatment to patients irrespective of their socio-economic status has witnessed several innovative measures including ‘Home Visits’ and ‘Satellite Clinics’ that bring medical care to the doorstep of patients, who are mostly daily wage workers.
